You Can Go Into Covenant with the Enemy Too

A Biblical Reflection on Misaligned Agreements and Spiritual Consequences

Covenant is sacred. In Scripture, it is the divine framework through which God establishes relationship, protection, and purpose with His people. But covenant is not exclusive to righteousness. The enemy, too, seeks covenant—agreements, alignments, and partnerships that entangle, deceive, and destroy. The sobering truth is this: you can go into covenant with the enemy, and many have, often unknowingly.


What Is Covenant?

Biblically, a covenant is more than a contract. It is a binding agreement sealed by words, blood, and loyalty. God’s covenants with Noah (Genesis 9), Abraham (Genesis 15), and Israel (Exodus 19–24) were marked by promises, responsibilities, and divine presence. But covenant is not limited to God’s people. Scripture reveals that ungodly covenants—with idols, nations, and demonic powers—carry real spiritual consequences.


Biblical Examples of Covenant with the Enemy

1. Israel’s Covenant with Pagan Nations

“You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods.”  

—Exodus 23:32

God warned Israel repeatedly not to make covenants with the Canaanites or their gods. Yet in Judges 2:2, Israel disobeyed:

 “But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this?”

Their covenant with enemy nations led to spiritual compromise, idol worship, and generational bondage. The enemy’s goal was not just political alliance—it was spiritual infiltration.

2. King Solomon’s Foreign Wives

> “Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt…”  

—1 Kings 3:1

Solomon’s covenants through marriage were political, but they became spiritual. His foreign wives turned his heart toward other gods (1 Kings 11:4), and the kingdom suffered division and judgment. Covenant with the enemy often begins with convenience—but ends in corruption.

3. King Ahab and Jezebel

Ahab’s marriage to Jezebel was a covenant with Baal worship. Jezebel didn’t just influence Ahab—she restructured Israel’s spiritual landscape. In 1 Kings 18, Elijah confronts this demonic covenant head-on.

“You have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and followed the Baals.”

This was not just poor leadership—it was a covenant with darkness.

4. Judas and the Chief Priests

 “Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?’”  

—Matthew 26:14–1

Judas entered into covenant with the enemy—not just with corrupt priests, but with Satan himself (Luke 22:3). The thirty pieces of silver were the seal. The betrayal was the fruit. Covenant with the enemy always costs more than it pays.


How Covenant with the Enemy Happens Today

- Compromise for gain: Aligning with unethical systems or people for status, money, or influence.

- Spiritual agreements: Engaging in occult practices, idolatry, or rituals that open doors to demonic influence.

- Emotional entanglements: Relationships that pull you away from God’s voice, purpose, and peace.

- Silence in the face of evil: When you protect what God has called you to confront, you enter into agreement with it.


🕊️ Breaking Ungodly Covenants

The good news is that ungodly covenants can be broken. Through repentance, renunciation, and the blood of Jesus, every agreement with darkness can be severed.

“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”  

—Colossians 2:15

Jesus is the ultimate covenant-keeper. His blood speaks a better word (Hebrews 12:24). When we align with Him, every other covenant must bow.


🌿 Final Reflection

Covenant is powerful. It shapes destiny, identity, and legacy. But not all covenants are holy. The enemy seeks agreement—through fear, seduction, and silence. Scripture warns us to be vigilant, discerning, and anchored in truth.

You can go into covenant with the enemy.  

But you can also break it.  

And you can choose again—this time, with God.

“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…”  

—Joshua 24:15
