REJECTED...Come, I've held space for you!

I’ve faced rejection so often that I had started to expect it. I was always on the defensive of anyone who came at me sideways with a side eye. I was almost flabbergasted when I didn’t get rejected or whwn people were nice to me—or when there was no opposition, no resistance. Sometimes I’m accepted so quickly that my head spins. Wait… what?

Rejection--It used to hurt. I felt alone, unwanted. But then I became an adult—a mature one—and it stopped mattering. I had suffered so much trauma by then that I honestly didn’t care how people reacted to me. I didn’t care if they accepted me or not.

Then my children experienced rejection. And suddenly, I did care. I cared deeply. I was able to comfort them, to tell them: As long as you accept and love yourself, and know that God loves you—so much that He gave up His only Son so you’d be alright forever and ever—you’ll be okay.

I also told them the hard truths--not everyone will like you, there will be people who will never love you. There will be people even more that will reject you, but Jesus was rejected and is still often rejected and even refuted despite the chronology of evidence on His goodness. He did no wrong but many screamed crucify Him, so as long as you are a good tree bearing good fruit fret not yourself about those that reject or hate you.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son..." (John 3:16)

I told them, He delights in you so much that He fills your cup and ensures it runs over so you never leave His presence.  God wants you with Him always, so much so that he want to keep your cup filled.

"You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." (Psalm 23:5)

And even if that sounds too much like peonies and daisies, He said He’d be with you to the ends of the earth.

"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

God calls you friend—not because He’s desperate for anyone's friendship, but because of His fondness for you.  Even Mary knew that his feet were worth the oil in her alabaster box.

"I no longer call you servants... Instead, I have called you friends." (John 15:15)

It’s true: there will be people who hate you for absolutely no reason. Who reject you outright, without cause.

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first." (John 15:18)

But there will also be those who love you, who dream for you, who pray for you—for no reason other than love. I have a friend like that. I’ve never known rejection from her. I’ve known the love of God through her. I still cry over the journal page she wrote years before we ever truly became actual friends. It was a prayer for me and my family.

Sometimes I send her cry emojis and just expect her to know what’s bothering me—and somehow, she always knows when I'm going through stuff. I love her so very much. And today, she told me something that made me angry and cry. I wish I could hug her tight and say, Don’t you worry. God’s got you. You’ll be alright. I couldn’t even tell her I love her, because I didn’t want to make the moment feel pitiful and sorrowful. There’s nothing to pity. I know she’ll be okay. She has to be, right?!

I’ve prayed so much. And I’ll keep praying. I won’t relent until she tells me the miracle God has done. I am praying and fasting in expectation of her testimony.

"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles." (Psalm 34:17)

And then there’s this:

“The stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” (Psalm 118:22)

I don’t know why God said that to me during devotion. I wasn’t even thinking about rejection. But once I heard it, I started telling God about my friend and how she’s never rejected me. So I suppose I wasn’t quiet enough to hear what He really wanted to say—lol, sigh.

Still, I know this:

Rejection doesn’t define us. Love does. And sometimes, the ones who’ve been cast aside become the very foundation of something sacred, something holy, something healing.

rejection, resilience, divine acceptance, trauma and transformation, friendship, God’s unwavering love, prayer and intercession, miracles, faith, love, journaling, hope that refuses to relent,
